Why have a no-reporter policy if you have nothing to hide?
This New York Times article about a mysterious illness appearing in pork factory workers is not for the weak of stomach. I actually gagged more than once while reading it (you’ve been warned).
But what struck me most about this article wasn’t the graphic descriptions of dismembering pig carcasses but rather this little sentence:
“Quality Pork’s owner does not allow reporters to enter the plant.”
This goes beyond the oft-mentioned issue of people not really knowing where their food comes from. Quality Pork doesn’t want you to know where your food comes from - at least not the food that they’re providing. Why not?
If I ate pork, I think I would be pretty bothered by this. Guess I should be glad I don’t eat pork.

I agree with you!
Why won’t they let reporters in if everything’s on the up and up? Probably because they’ve got something to hide.

Kind of the same thing as Bush wanting that bill put through that will give him and his administration immunity from war crimes trials. Guilty, ya think?

Correct me if I’m wrong but such epidemics are unheard of with veg… :-)
I was shocked by the 19,000 hogs slaughtered a day. That’s a huge figure. How do they manage to raise that many pigs to reach that range every day? To me these figures reveal something very abnormal in the process.

If only people knew, if only they were exposed to what goes on in plants. I’m realizing that its not that most people dont know, its that they DONT WANT TO KNOW. They turn a blind eye.
Its too ghastly for most people, but it needs to be seen, it needs to brought out into mainstream media.
Reporters should absolutely be allowed. I personally would love it, if PETA showed up. Of course, it would have to be an undercover PETA agent.
With that policy, they are obviously hiding stuff.

I tried to read it but once I got to the second page I started to feel very sick. I cannot stand what people are capable of doing and I don’t get why more people don’t realize how sick it all is.
