This story about a vegetarian Passover celebration is interesting for both its content and the reader comments that follow. Why does vegetarianism seem to piss some people off so much?

On the surface it pisses off some people who claim that these new forms of Passover (and that applies to all other religious and non-religious events) do not respect the tradition. Fair enough. But what it also shows is that those people are unwilling to accept changes ; they refuse to see what they are used to challenged, because they do not know how to handle and how to adapt. Basically they want to stay in a sort of comfort zone that noone should change “in the name of tradition”.

I recently read something that reminded me of your comment, Celine. It was talking about how “tradition” alone is basically a ridiculous reason to keep doing something, pointing out that sexism and slavery, as examples, could also be justified by the “tradition” excuse.
