The pumpkin recipe on the Guardian link looks soooo good. But where in the heck (in France) can I find tamarind pulp? What IS tamarind pulp? I think I could easily be vegetarian (I mean, I could live without meat) except that I find it so intimidating. Am I crazy to be intimidated by vegetarian cooking?

Don’t be afraid, Nat - vegetarians don’t bite.
OK seriously, I understand exactly what you mean. I have been looking into going vegan recently, and my research inevidibly leads me to recipes containing things like ‘nutritional yeast’ that I have never heard of. But you probably don’t need to add any new foods at all to your diet in order to go vegetarian. I only experiment occasionally, because it’s fun to try new things.
And check your local Asian market for the tamarind pulp.
