Veggie Chic

Vegetarian-style fun in Zurich

by Jul on November 19th, 2006

hiltlThe other night I met up with some fellow vegetarians for a night out at Zurich’s oldest and most famous vegetarian restaurant, Hiltl. This restaurant is a great place to be a vegetarian, and it’s usually a hit even with the omnivore crowd. We’ve taken almost all of our visitors there, and I can’t think of anyone who didn’t really love it. There is an extensive menu full of creative vegetarian cuisine, as well as a buffet which includes delicious hot and cold Indian dishes, among other things.

My dining partners and I were all members of an online group called Veggie in CH. Although it’s not a particularly active group, the online message board offers a great forum for us to share information and concerns with fellow veg*ns in Switzerland. Members will ask questions about where to get certain vegan baby foods, for example, or post articles that may be of interest to other vegetarians. It was fun to get together and to meet some of the group in person.

Is there a vegetarian group of some sort where you live? If not, maybe you could consider starting one yourself - it’s easy and free to set up a message board / email distribution list through a site such as Google Groups or Yahoo Groups. A local group is a great way to share information with other vegetarians in your area (the best veg-friendly restaurants, the best place to buy tofu…), and possibly make some new friends, too.
