Vegetarian Carnival #13: something for everyone!
Welcome to the February 18, 2008, edition of the vegetarian carnival. Instead of organizing this one by topic, I’m going to start off with my 5 favorite entries (in no particular order):
- Lisa presents Paneer Pizza on Naan Bread posted at Lisa’s Vegetarian Kitchen. Looks delicious - now I am definitely craving Indian food, especially paneer!
- Lane Wright presents Compassion Will Cure More Sins than Condemnation posted at Vegan Bits. Lane talks about being attacked as not being a “real vegan”, and I totally support what he’s saying. Enough with the superior veg*ner-than-thou attitudes already.
- ohmindy presents Margarita Cupcakes: Cuptails for the Everyman posted at Oh, Mindy!, saying, “Cupcakes for grown-ups, and if you need an excuse, they help prevent scurvy!” Nobody wants scurvy!
- Foodeater presents Mugicha: How to Make Barley Tea. posted at To Live and Eat in L.A, saying, “A step-by-step article, with photos, of my first ever attempt at making Mugicha, Korean style barley tea (and the yummy breakfast that came out of it by mistake!).” This is one of those things that I’d never think of trying to make myself, but it does sound good!
- Jade Blackwater presents A Look Ahead at Spring Gardening posted at AppleJade, saying, “I write a blog about natural health and wellness including recent posts about how to create and use cold frames to feed you and your family fresh vegetables year-round.” I am so jealous of people with gardens these days. I wonder what I can grow on my balcony.
I thought it would be easy to choose my favorite 5 entries, but there were so many good ones this month that it was hard! Congrats to the top 5 for beating out some stiff competition. And now for some more fabulous carnival entries:
- Thursday Bram presents Growing My Own Food…In My Apartment | Wise Bread posted at Wise Bread.
- Matt Smith presents YouTube - How to Cook Collard Greens posted at Cookus Interruptus, saying, “In this episode of cookus interruptus, Cynthia shows us how to cook collards while Jane hooks up with the SPD.”
- Alison Sharley presents Green Me Vegetarian Challenge posted at Healthy and Green by the Day.
- David Gross presents The Picket Line — 15 February 2008 posted at The Picket Line, saying, “Just how much of a premium are we paying when we buy produce through a Community Supported Agriculture program instead of just going to the corner market? There’s one way to find out: collect the figures and do the math.”
- Stretch Mark Mama presents Calabacitas posted at Stretch Mark Mama.
- Melissa presents Green Beans With Caramelized Onions posted at A Penny Closer.
- Raymond presents Save Money - Be A Vegetarian Part Time posted at Money Blue Book.
- Roger Haeske presents I’ll Be Eating At A Steakhouse Tonight posted at Raw Food Diet, Bodyweight Fitness and Peak Performance Living.
- Tiffany Washko presents Raw Food is Easier on the Budget posted at Raw Food Blog.
- Lazy Man and Money presents Vegetarianism and Its Benefits posted at Lazy Man and Health.
- Suzanne presents Cumin Black-eyed Peas posted at adventures in daily living.
- Laura Williams presents Canning Soaked Dried Beans - making your own canned pinto beans posted at Laura Williams’ Musings, saying, “Easy and economical.”
- vigilanat20 presents Penne With Eggplant posted at Viggie’s Veggies.
That concludes this edition. Hungry yet?

Hi Jul,
Thanks so much for including VeganBits.com in your Top 5! Looks like there was some stiff competition indeed.
FYI, I’m the husband (and male)… Jane is my wife. No biggie.
The Margarita Cupcakes look like fun. I’m going to ask Jane if she can try and veganize these for me!!!

Also, there’s a fabulous vegan recipe for margarita cupcakes in the book Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World. I made them once for a party and they were quite the crowd pleaser!
