Vegetarian Afghan delight

On a whim, we visited a new Afghan restaurant in our neighborhood the other day. The decor was cozy and warm. The menu was limited, but we managed to settle on a vegetarian pumpkin appetizer and two vegetarian main courses, one spinach-based and the other eggplant-based. No alcohol was served, but there were several interesting teas on the menu. Hookahs were also available.
Everything we ate was absolutely delicious. The main courses were served over basmati rice and were reminiscent of Indian dishes. The appetizer (pictured) was served with toasted bread and had a flavor all its own. I was quite happy to discover yet another cuisine that is very vegetarian friendly.
Do you have an Afghan restaurant in your neighborhood?

Might be worth a look - I’m pretty sure both our main courses were vegan. :)

That looks delicious. I wish we had more exotic restaurants near us. I love Indian food and I’m sure I’d love Afghan food too.

I don’t have any Afghan restaurants near me, possibly because we don’t have a very big Afghan community. I have been making a lot of Afghan food recently -in fact it’s a bit of an obsession but I’d love to try some authentic Afghan cooking to see how my version compares.
