Vegan Victory: The Jeans Fit!

by Rhys on January 22nd, 2006

Some of these entries have been negative lately, and it’s time to concentrate on the good stuff.

So…Vegan Victories! No matter how small, these are worth celebrating.

The scales have shown a weight loss since starting this journey, but I never saw the changes reflected in my body. I don’t know if it’s harder to see on yourself, but I really didn’t see anything different, and since I was an average weight when I started, it seems as though a 12 pound weight loss would be obvious. But it wasn’t!

The other day, I pulled out four pairs of pants I haven’t worn for over a year, because well…they didn’t fit! I was convinced they still wouldn’t, and expected trying them on to be an exercise in futility. They…fit. Last time I tried them on, I couldn’t get them anywhere near buttoning. On pair I couldn’t even pull up past mid-thigh. They all fit!

I still don’t see any changes, but the jeans must serve as some sort of proof. Don’t they?

I want to emphasize that weight loss IS NOT and should not be the focus of turning to a vegetarian or vegan diet. It puts the focus in the wrong area. But if you are looking to lose weight, I can’t imagine a better lifestyle choice than a vegan diet. There’s no need to count calories (a process sure to doom any diet) and best of all, you’re steadily making yourself healthier and healthier. I’ll go on record as saying that if you try a vegan diet even for just a month, there’s NO WAY your cholesterol won’t lower. I bet you three million dollars.

So, hooray for small steps, and onward to bigger ones!

I just bought jeans for the first time today in many years. But the size is nothing to brag about. :(

I’d take you up on your three million dollar bet if I ever had any intention of going vegan/vegetarian. ;)
