Two Week Update

And it goes along swimmingly.
It appears I’m down another four pounds, though I used a different scale today, so I can’t be absolutely sure until I use the original movie theater scale. I’ll have to double-check when I go see Narnia.
I don’t feel like there are eight pounds gone, as that would be a pretty significant difference on me, but maybe it’s mostly stored up water and gunk from a previously high-sodium diet. Not that it’s low sodium now. Yes, I ended up eating more junk food this week than I intended. But I did manage to work in more vegetables, thanks to my whole wheat pasta/broccoli combo. I’ve eaten a lot of soy cheese pizza this week: good, but not exactly a vegetable.
Aside from one wild meat craving while in Carl’s Jr. a few days ago, I don’t miss hamburgers or anything too much. The manager of our local convenience store did inform me, though, that they’re now woefully overstocked on Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, thanks to my sudden abandonment of it. Ha!
I felt like a cavewoman during the aforementioned time at Carl’s Jr. I saw people eating their hamburgers and my body was all ablaze with Want meat! Give me meat now! Urrgg! But we’d been out snowshoeing all day through very deep snow, and the only thing I’d eaten was half of a banana, so it was just a general hunger thing. One thing I have learned: cravings, no matter how bad you want something at the time, do go away. Which is good, because for a second I did actually wonder if the woman across the aisle would mind terribly if I grabbed her burger and took a bite.
Other things: I noticed the ‘taste’ you get when you wake up in the morning now seems less obvious, and bathroom experiences are more pleasant overall. (How’s that for vague?)
Two people within the last two days have offered me compliments on my complexion. I don’t know if it’s related, though I have yet to meet a vegan who doesn’t have flawless skin. We shall see!
I’m still searching for an authentic teriyaki sauce, as I mentioned in my first weekly update, and would appreciate any suggestions.
Onward! Happy broccoli-ing!

I’m not big on weighing myself and so forth, since I’m not vegan for health reasons, but I have started doing so recently since I’ve been working out more, and was pleased to find that I had lost a few pounds myself over the past couple of years or so. Nothing major, but getting lean and tone is always nice.
I couldn’t tell from your blog, but have you tried Soy Cream, from Double Rainbow?

What you put into your body does effect your overall wellbeing. I have not had that taste in my mouth for several years. I became vegetarian in 1992. I mainly eat whole foods.
You are correct cravings do go away.

I have lost about 14 pounds since the beginning of Sept…with lil or no dairy. I still goof from time to time.

Awesome, Harmonia!
Vegan Mom–thank you for that excellent point, and for the encouragement. Congrats on your successful conversion!
Eric–excellent point. I’m not big on the weighing thing, either, because it tends to detract from what’s important. Congratulations on your fitness progression. I haven’t tried Soy Cream, but I will. Thanks for the recommendation! :)
