The joy of eating vegetarian in Milan
We went to Milan for the weekend to visit our old hometown (we lived there for a year and a half before moving to Zurich). The main purpose of this trip (at least in my eyes) was to eat our way through the city - it just doesn’t get any better than real Italian food! And the highlight of the weekend was dinner at my favorite restaurant in the entire world, Joia. Joia serves up vegetarian haute cuisine that is beautiful, entertaining, and delicious. Our meal lasted for four and a half hours, and we enjoyed every minute of it.
The menu changes completely once a season, so there’s always something new and exciting to try. If you are ever lucky enough to eat here, I highly recommend getting one of the set menus on offer. It will set you back 60-100 euros (at dinner), but in my opinion it’s definitely worth the splurge. Each course is like an edible work of art, and is accompanied by an explanation and often instructions on how to eat it.
If you’re looking for delicious vegetarian eats in Milan but want to spend less on your meal, I also highly recommend Joia Leggero, a less-fancy version of Joia. The cubi are not to be missed.
