Spargelzeit!

It’d be remiss of me not to mention the start of asparagus season (Spargelzeit) here in Germany. You have never seen a more celebrated vegetable! There are stands all over town selling the stalks by the kilo, and many restaurants have special asparagus menus. They love this stuff here!
If the photo looks a bit off to you, it may be because you’re used to green asparagus, which is much more common than white in North America. Here it’s the white asparagus that gets all the attention, although green and even purple make the occasional appearance.

I love Asparagus! Green, white, purple, it doesn’t matter to me. My favorite way to eat it is simply by roasting it with a little oil, salt, and pepper. YUM! Now my mouth is watering.

This website is rad!
How come I only found it now???!
Asparagus is yummy, I eat them the normal old fashioned way by making them send up in water and cooking them then I add a little lemon juice for summer or roasted like Marti said….yummmm.
Super website! and soo cool to live in a country that actually gets all excited over a veggie!!

My husband’s family is German and they have grown many springs of asparagus!! We love it braised in olive oil until almost dark brown with salt/pepper and a touch of butter once it’s out of the pan….yum! My 10 yr. old is finally a convert this year!
