Munich’s Hirschgarten: ask and you shall receive
I’ve said it before, but it’s worth repeating: if you don’t see something veggie-friendly on the menu, ask the waiter about your options.
Last week I was at the Hirschgarten restaurant in Munich (usually the city’s largest beer garden, but it’s indoor-only when there’s a foot of snow outside). There were only two vegetarian dishes on the menu that evening: one which they were out of, and one which didn’t interest me. So I asked the waiter if there were perhaps any other vegetarian options available. He immediately suggested a fresh vegetable gratin, which I happily ordered. It looked like this:

Fresh Brussels sprouts, zucchini, romanesco, carrots, tomatoes, and onions in a flavorful sauce. Yum.

What a good idea. It totally never dawns on me to ask the waiter for something special. But I should. Else how can I get what I want?
Cheers!

Always good to be reminded to speak up and ask. That looks delicious.
