Confessions of a cheese fiend
This is not the first time I have entertained the thought of becoming a vegan. In the past the idea has popped into my head many times, only to be quickly laughed away. Give up cheese? Me? Never!
My house has become a cheese-free zone for the past three weeks, but the rest of my world is a different story. Especially since I live in Switzerland, there is cheese everywhere. I love cheese. I’m fine without it when I have plenty of other delicious things to eat (like the great stuff I’ve been cooking at home these days), but when it’s a choice between cheese and french fries, or cheese and nothing, I really start to want that cheese.
If I lived somewhere else - say, somewhere where all the restaurants served delicious vegan food - I could conceive of giving up cheese without too much of a problem. But alas, I live in the real world, and I’m not sure I can see that happening just now. Going vegan for 24 days did teach me that I can give up cheese at home, though, without feeling deprived. I really expected to miss it more than I did.

Got the same problem. As a child I refused to eat cheese, which my father who’s from Normandie couldn’t quite understand. I used to say that gruyere “smells of puke”. Then I got used to it. I had no problem giving up milk and yoghurts but cheese and fresh bread is tasty. Having said that, I’ve cut down on the amount I eat and I buy organic cheese because the animal welfare standards are much higher than for non-organic produces. Still that’s no excuse…

Whenever I do my yearly detox fast, the one thing that I miss the most is Cheese. Well, that and Chocolate…but mostly cheese.
