Vegetarian recommendations in San Diego?

I’m heading to San Diego soon. It’s a city I don’t know well at all, so I’d really appreciate some dining recommendations from readers. Anyone know of any fabulous vegetarian (or veg-friendly) restaurants I need to try while I’m there?
Thanks!

Vegetarian Ethiopian food in the heart of Munich

I’d been wanting to try Blue Nile, an Ethiopian restaurant here in Munich, for a while now. This weekend I finally got a chance to go, and it was definitely worth the trip. I’ve been a fan of Ethiopian food for a while now, partially because there’s always some fabulous vegetarian items on the menu. […]

Samadhi: fabulous affordable vegetarian dining in Berlin

Berlin is one of my favorite cities in the world, but food is not one of the city’s strong points (especially when you’re dining with non-vegetarians who want to sample the local delicacies). Still, every once in a while I manage to stumble across a blog-worthy meal there.
I had a great meal at Samadhi on […]

Nachos gone wrong

We went to the grand opening of a restaurant in our neighborhood the other day for a late dinner. There weren’t too many veggie options on the menu, so one of us ordered the nachos. This is what came. Half the chips were burnt, the cheese was a small solid, rubbery mass, and the salsa? […]

An Indonesian feast in Rotterdam

I was in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, visiting friends a couple weeks ago. They took us out for an amazing dinner at a local Indonesian restaurant. We ordered the ‘rice table’ - basically a whole lot of small dishes. And when I say ‘a whole lot’, I mean it - look at this spread! It took […]

Vegetarian Afghan delight

On a whim, we visited a new Afghan restaurant in our neighborhood the other day. The decor was cozy and warm. The menu was limited, but we managed to settle on a vegetarian pumpkin appetizer and two vegetarian main courses, one spinach-based and the other eggplant-based. No alcohol was served, but there were several interesting […]

Saf, or have I mentioned how much fun it is to be a vegetarian in Munich?

Thanks to a recent comment from Nat, I was inspired to try out the vegan restaurant Saf im Zerwirk today. Saf is in the middle of downtown Munich, just steps away from the Hofbräuhaus.
I coaxed a new friend to go try Saf for lunch. The restaurant had a very clean, modern interior, and the waiters […]

Cafe Ignaz: more vegetarian fun in Munich

Who knew Munich was such a vegetarian-friendly city? For Valentine’s Day (thus the rose petals on the table) my husband surprised me with reservations at Cafe Ignaz, a vegetarian restaurant we hadn’t tried yet.
The menu was extensive, with both vegetarian and vegan items well-represented. Specialties included pastas, pizzas, gratins, gnocchi, crepes, and stir-fry. I ordered […]

Proof that Munich loves its vegetarians

Yesterday we went out in search of somewhere to enjoy Sunday brunch in our new city (Munich, Germany). We managed to wander all the way to the center and ended up in front of the Weisses Brauhaus in the middle of the old town touristy district. Skeptical, we took a brief look at the menu […]

NYC: sushi heaven

New York (home of the infamous Sushi Memo) is the place to be for sushi. I can’t believe I only managed to eat it once this time around. I need to go back! At least the one place I went was plenty delicious. Mishima had many veggie choices on the menu, making it hard for […]
