4 ways to guarantee you won’t be included in the next vegetarian carnival
When I first started the Vegetarian Carnival, I sought to be as inclusive as possible when deciding which entries to include in the carnival posting. But now that we’ve had 13 editions (all of which are linked to here ), I think it’s time for some rules. Here are four ways you can make sure your post won’t be included in the next edition:
-
Submit a recipe that contains meat. Or chicken broth.
- Submit a post that has nothing to do with vegetarianism.
- When I visit your blog, block the content with a giant pop-up window begging me to subscribe to your feed. (I used to include these entries if they seemed relevant otherwise, but the pop-ups are annoying and I’ve decided I don’t want to direct my readers to sites that insist on using them).
- Submit multiple times per carnival. OK, I’m very understanding when it’s just a couple entries from one person (I know it can be hard to remember when/if you submitted something to a particular carnival), and in those cases I usually just pick one to include. But the guys that submit 10 posts in one hour? I’ll be deleting each and every one of those. Nobody likes to have their inbox filled with unnecessary email.
Yes, all of these have actually happened (the meat-containing recipes amuse me the most!). By weeding out these types of submissions, my intent is to make it easier for readers to find great content on great blogs.
So how do you get your post included? Easy! Submit a well-written, interesting post that pertains in some way to vegetarianism. Recipes, restaurant reviews, thoughts, food reviews…
See how simple it is? Do you have some great vegetarian-oriented content you’d like to share? Submit it to the upcoming vegetarian carnival! The next deadline is coming up in about a week!
Any other rules you think I should add to the list?

Wow — just the fact that you have to spell out the rules is pretty crazy! What are these people (not-) thinking? :)

People are submitting vegetarian recipes that include meat? Sure, I struggle with the whole definition of vegetarian every now and then. Mostly as compared to vegan. (Actually, if I’m going to be honest, my struggles deal with being unable to pick one and go with it - I won’t drink milk, but I can’t seem to give up cheese. I’m a lost soul.) But, the whole “no meat” thing? Yeah, that I don’t struggle with, haha.
And I completely agree with your pop-up subscription window peeve.

I’m with you, Alicia - my fridge is full of soy milk, rice milk, and real cheese. Nothing wrong with picking and choosing as it works for you! :)
And as for the meat-containing recipes, I believe they usually come from well-meaning non-vegetarians who just think along the lines of “well, meat isn’t the main focus of this dish, so it must be vegetarian”, without taking mental note of the bacon cubes or beef broth that they used for flavoring…

It’s annoying when people can’t think or read. Argh. Too bad you had to make this list.
