Tasty mung dhal

The other day I picked up a bag of mung dhal - a kind of lentil I had never cooked with before. Since the package lacked even basic instructions, I did a little googling and came across this recipe for whole mung dhal that sounded simple and promising.
I more or less followed the recipe, except […]

A very veggie St. Paddy’s Day

A good friend’s birthday happens to coincide with St. Patrick’s Day, and we celebrated with an Irish-themed party full of vegetarian delicacies (none of which I thought to photograph, unfortunately). There was homemade Irish brown bread, some Irish cheddar and stout fondue with plenty of veggies for dipping, a vegetarian Irish stew, and a delicious […]

Put a word on the can that makes me giggle (can you find it?).

a food processor or blender that’s good at chopping
a spatula
peanuts (out of the shell)
salt (optional)

Instructions:

Put peanuts (and […]

Lunch salad of the day: winter goodness

A typical winter lunch for me: butter lettuce, arugula, castelfranco, tomatoes, cooked beets, canned chick peas, and jarred white asparagus. Dressed with olive oil, white balsamic vinegar, salt, and pepper. Nothing fancy, but still delicious.

Vegetarian haggis

The Scots love haggis. So proud they are of this national dish (usually made with sheep innards), they want to make sure that everyone gets a chance to take part - even vegetarians. I’ve been served vegetarian haggis twice now (most recently at a very fun Burns Night), and I’ve never even been to Scotland.
So […]
